I've been growing this bulbous Lilaceae plant for about
10 years now and it
never fails to put up a brilliant display of pendulous,
brilliant white flowers
on 24"-48" stems every Summer. Native to the Cape
Province of South
Africa, it grows well in average garden soil and
appreciates good drainage
and full sun. I find many self sown seedlings in the
bed where it resides
and they are easily potted and grown on.
I'm also
evaluating plants of a
double form discovered in New Zealand called G. c.
'Moonbeam'
There are two other species in the
genus, G.
princeps and G. viridiflora. I've not had
much experience with
the former, but we're building stock of the latter
and hope to be offering
it for sale within the next couple of years.
